EFFECT ON EUROPE’S ECONOMY
GENEVA, May 29. Professor Karl Gunnar Myrdal, executive secretary of the ■ United Nations Economic Commission for Europe, said to-day that military expenditure threatened to stifle the economic progress of Europe. The post-war standstill of trade between East and West Europe was injuring both sides equally, said Professor Myrdal. That was only one of the costs of the cold war. Another was the growing burden of military expenditures, but the gravest menace to continued economic stability and growth in Western Europe was its dollar trading deficit.
