WAR ON RABBITS

Sir, —Your total “War on Rabbits” seems to me in theory monstrously cruel and totally immoral, and hence I think it should be totally rejected in practice. Warfare on animals is as much out of date in our modern days as war on human beings. That “might is right”—the doctrine of the “killer”—is something that ought to be definitely set aside both in theory and practice. In an atomic age man must become totally moralised or perish, and by “moralised” I mean he must not deliberately violate the Golden Rule of “Do as you would be done by.” We must put ourselves in the position of the rabbits, and consider what a fair and just treatment means. This problem is one that can be solved only on a basis of ethical principle. It calls for pro and con discussion in the press, in the cinema, and over the air.—Yours, etc., N. M. BELL. May 29, 1950.
