Czech Demand For Reduction TEXT OF NOTE IN REPLY (Rec. 8 p.m.) PRAGUE, May 27. A United States Note, announcing that the United States diplomatic staff in Czechoslovakia will be reduced by more than a half in response to the Czech demand was delivered to the Czech Foreign Ministry to day. The United States Consulate in Bratislava will be closed and a staff of'l2 left in Prague. At present there are 24 Americans in Prague and two in Bratislava. The Note said: ‘‘As Czechoslovakia has made it clear that it is no longer interested in maintaining normal diplomatic relations, the demand will be complied with.” The Note protested against “repeated provocations and counter-attacks against the United States.” A month ago there were more than 70 Americans in Czechoslovakia. On April 28 Czechoslovakia demanded that the number be reduced by two-thirds. This was done, under protest, by May In retaliation for the latest Czech demand, the United States Note demanded that the Czechs should close their Consulate and the office of the Commercial Attache in New York within a fortnight. This will leave both Czechoslovakia and the United States with only 12 representatives in either country.
