CHURCH CONGRESS AND HUMAN SUFFERING

Sir,—ln reply to “Brabeus.” I would claim this:—(l) that the world which Gcd has created, considered in itself, is good. 2. That pain, considered in itself. is good and essential to life. If it were not for pain we would avoid none of the potential harms that we encounter. But for pain, we would stop breathing. 3. That God has set men free to become moral and responsible beings, able to choose good and evil. If man were unable to choose evil, he would be a mere automaton. Man’s dignity and worth lie in the. fact that he is a moral being: so does his depravity and worthlessness. God made man in his own image —a moral being; and as such he must have power for evil as well as good.— Yours, etc., STUDENT. May 26, 1950.
