PAINT FOR COUNCIL HOUSES

Sir, —I have been wondering for some time if the City Council thinks it is a good, sound policy to build houses and then let them rot for want of paint. As time goes on it looks to me, with prices rising all the time, that when the council decides to do the job it’will cost more. There are plenty of boards in the houses which have been absolutely bare of paint for the last two winters, the weather getting right into them. As this is centennial year, why not give them a drink? They certainly look very thirsty.—Yours, etc., PAINT POT. May 15, 1950. [“The painting of council houses and other buildings is carried out continuously.” said the Town Clerk (Mr H. S. Feast). “The lag resulting from the war years is gradually being overtaken. If the writer is the tenant in a council house which he thinks requires painting, he should communicate with his landlord.”]
