ADVERTISEMENTS ON TAXIS
Sir, —During the last few days I have noticed some taxis displaying advertising stickers on their windows. I think the City Council, or whoever the licensing authority may be. should take immediate action against this sort of thing. Surely there is enough dignity and civic pride in Christchurch to clamp down on such an undesirable practice where vehicles plying for public hire are concerned. It would be interesting to hear the Mayor’s opinion and remarks on this matter.—Yours, etc., I. AVOIDTHEM. May 19, 1950. [ln reply to this letter the Town Clerk (Mr H. S. Feast) said: “Although permission was granted by the City Council to advertise a visiting artist on certain private cars and commercial vehicles, the Mayor (Mr E. H. Andrews) has no knowledge of advertising on taxis.”]
