POISONING OF TROUT

THREE MEN FINED AT INVERCARGILL '(New Zealand Press Association) INVERCARGILL. May 20. Three men who appeared in the Invercargill Magistrate's Court to-day were each fined a total of £3O 16s by the Magistrate (Mr W. A. Harlow, S.M.) on charges of poisoning tro.ut. The Magistrate said that the fines would have been much heavier if the defendants had not been put to considerable expense. The Magistrate added that he made his remarks not to console the r uilty men. but to indicate to the public that the penalty imposed was itself not adequate for the offence.

The men were Algernon Stanley Annan and William Charles Parker, of Port Chalmers, and John Alfred Daly, of Birchwood. The charges were brought by the society. The trout were poisoned in the Blue Bottle stream near Ohai.
