CHURCH CONGRESS

Sir,—A pleasing trend in the deliberations of the Church Congress is the shift of basis of divinity upon diplomacy, to diplomacy placed upon divinity. which is a most practical orientation; for little can be accomplished by those “having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof.” Many consider that world opinion is ahead rather than behind their leaders on the war question, and would welcome more publicity from moral experts, especially that intellectual honesty that demands self-criticism. The common man is interested in a reduction* of the tax on his conscience, reason. and credulity, and of propaganda in his own tongue, and can appraise the fair-driven law of retribution and the love-drawn law of reciprocity in relationships with his fellowman. Pronouncement on (he morality of atomic licence with the prospect of mutual obliteration must eventually exert pressure on attitudes and “spiritual wickedness in high places.”— Yours, etc., RETROSPECT.
