"EDUCATION” MAGAZINE

Sir,—ln your issue of May 19, there appeared a letter signed by “Taxpayer,” concerning the magazine', “Education.” Had taxpayer taken the trouble to inquire before he rushed into print, he would have found that, like the doctors, lawyers, etc., he mentions, teachers have their own magazine, “National Education,” for which “they gladly pay their own subscriptions.” I would suggest also that teachers pay more in subscriptions to technical magazines than any other section of the community. The magazine, “Education” was introduced as a quarterly magazine, in which are printed authoritative articles and instructions from the department, these previously having been published monthly in the Gazette. Should the magazine be stopped, it will simply mean the previous practice will have to be resorted to, with a consequent increase in the publication cost of the Gazette. The abandonment of “Education” will certainly not result in a saving of £sooo.—Yours, etc., TEACHER. May 22, 1950. , _L_ (
