LICENCES FOR IMPORTS

Nash) yesterday afternoon, when a report that up to £2,000.CC0 worth of’ import licences had been granted by the La bo eminent in its last days of office. “Licences are issued by the Cus oms Department, and only in special cases come to the Minister. The weekly average value of licences issued f»r the whole year was between £2,500.009 and £3.000.000, and for the period mentioned the amount would be approximately £4.000.000 to £5.000.000.'' When the report was referred to the Minister of Industries and Commerce ■Mr C. M. Bowden) in Auckland, he sa-d it was a fact that licences to a substantial total had been authorised between 'December 1 and December 13. when the National Partv t< ok office.
