GREEK AND CRETAN CAMPAIGNS

MESSAGES EXCHANGED ON NINTH ANNIVERSARY (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) WELLINGTON. May 22. A message expressing the gratitude of the 2nd N.Z.E.F. and the people of New Zealand to the Royal Navy on the ninth anniversary of the Greek and Cretan campaigns has been sent io the First Sea Lord (Admiral of the Fleet Lord Fraser) by the GovernorGeneral 'Sir Bernard Froyberg). and a reply has been received. In his message, which he requested be passed on to Admiral of the Fleet Lord Cunningham and Admiral Sir Henry Pridham-Whippell and all ranks and ratings, the Governor-Gen-eral says: “Cn the ninth anniversary of the Greek and Crete campaigns ail ranks of the 2nd N.Z.F.F. and the penn]e of New Zealand remember with gratitude their comrades of the Royal Navy. They will never forget what they owe to their bravery and efficiency during those difficult days.” In his reply Lord Fraser said: “I thank you most cordially for your message on the ninth anniversary of the Greek and Cretan campaigns. The officers and men of the Royal Navy who served in Greece and Crete consider it a privilege to have known the gallant force under your command.”
