MONDAY (Before Mr Raymond Ferner, S.M.) FINED FOR THEFT A shopkeeper had seen the accused go into his shop during his temporary absence and help himself to money from the till, said Senior-Sergeant J. J. Kearns, when William George Snell (Mr J. K. Moloney), a labourer, aged 30, pleaded guilty I to a charge of stealing the sum of £2 in money, the property of Lance James Hancock, on May 20, at Christchurch. Mr Moloney said Snell seemed to be suffering from some mental complaint which was inclined to make him antisocial. Snell was fined £3. REMANDED Pat Te Maihoroa Paiki- Tumara (Mr G. C. Sandston), a secretary, aged 24 years, was further remanded by consent to appear on June 1, on a charge that on or about February 22, at Kaiapoi, he forged a cheque drawn for £94 6s on account of the Ngaitahu Trust Board at the Bank of New Zealand by falsely signing what purported to be the signatures of John Charles Tikao and Norman Walker, with intent that the signatures be acted upon as genuine. The Magistrate renewed bail on the request of Mr Sandston in the sum of £lOO with one surety of £lOO, accused to report daily to the police. James Alexander Moore, a fireman, aged 38, was remanded until May 24 on a charge of stealing a silver cup and mounting valued at £l, the property of Jack Coffey, on May 20. FINED FOR DRUNKENNESS Leslie John Bruce, a labourer, aged 41, was fined 1 for being found drunk on the Main North road on May 20. He had been convicted on a similar charge in the last six months.
