HOCKEY

MEETING OF COMMITTEE August 19 was decided upon for the game between Canterbury and Manawatu, which will be played at Palmerston North for the New Zealand Challenge Shield, at last evening’s committee meeting of the Canterbury Hockey Association. The Canterbury Junior Hockey Association wrote asking for a representative from its association to be appointed to the committee of the Canterbury Hockey Association. Mr W. H. Burnell was invited to act in this capacity. The New Zealand Hockey Association wrote urging the raising of the Olympic Games levy from 6d to Is a head because funds forthcoming were insufficient to fulfil present commitments and because there would not be sufficient money to send a team to the Olympic Games in Melbourne during 1956. The committee recommended that the fee be raised to Is a head. Further grade selectors were apointed. They were: Mr C. S. C. Clements (colts); Mr H. Le Page (second); Mr C. Ryder (third A); Mr G. G. Graham (fourth), and ' Mr N. Hocking (fifth). i
