THEFT OF RIFLE ALLEGED

SEQUEL TO INCIDENT AT WEDDING PARTY (New Zealand Press Association) HAMILTON, May 22. Victor Wallace Mercep, aged 20, oi Te Awamutu, was charged in the Hamilton Magistrate’s Court to-day with the theft of a .22 rifle, valued at £l3 10s. the property of Noel Prince. Senior-Detective W. R. Murray, whe prosecuted, said that the charge arose out of incidents at Te Awamutu on Saturday night when, much to the consternation of the guests, a wedding party was interrupted by the firing of some shots. The bride was the accused’s sister. When the party was in full swing a rifle bullet entered the window, and further shots caused some consternation. More investigations had to be made to see what further charges might be preferred, said Senior-Detective Murray. and he asked for a remand to Te Awamutu for next Monday. The request was granted by the Magistrate <Mr S. L. Paterson).
