BOWLS

PIRRET IN FINAL (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, February 7. There was a better - standard of play all round in the second day’s play of the Empire Games bowls. Greens were still fast, but players gauged the strength In the singles, J. Pirret (N.Z.) and A. Newton (Aust.) are the only unbeaten players. Pirret beat W. Krupp (Can.) after a hard game in which 27 ends were played. In the pairs, Exelby (N.Z.) and Lewis I (Aust.) had a great tussle. It was only a shot by Exelby on the eighteenth head that ran the shot bowl off and gave him four that led to his ultimate win. Australia had its revenge in the fours game between Skoglund and Cobley.
