WRESTLING

N.Z. WINS TWO TITLES

(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND. February 7. New Zealand won two Empire Games wrestling titles this evening. In the bantam-weight, the only entries were Mudgway (N.Z.), and Chapman (Aust.). The standard was worthy of the final. Both were speedy, agile, and clever, but gradually Mudgway got the upper hand and took a fall with a reverse full helson after 13 minutes. The last pair in the feather-weight class, Armitt (N.Z.) and Milord (Can.) provided excitement. Both went all out for falls and tried a variety of holds. There was always action. Over the latter half of the bout Armitt was the aggressor, and this gained him a unanimous decision and the title. In the fly-weight final, Harris (Aust.) and Matthews (N.Z.) were well matched, but the Australian was more experienced and gained a fall after 11 minutes. Winner of two previous light-weight Empire Games, Garrard (Aust.) won his third. At the age of 39 he gave a finished exhibition of scientific wrestling and went thrqugh three contests without a bad point. ... Morton (S.A.) was too versatile for Sneddon (N.Z.) in the light-heavy-weight final. - In the heavy-weight, O’Connor (N.Z.) won a unanimous decision from Richmond (Eng.) because of his aggression. Armstrong (Aust.) won this title. He did not have a bad point scored against him in two contests. O’Connor was runner-up with four bad points. Results:— FLY-WEIGHT Final.—B. Harris (Aust.) beat E.
