N.Z. HEAVY WEIGHT WINS (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, February 7. R. H. Cleghorn (New Zealand.) was acclaimed the “strongest man in the Empire” when he won the heavyweight weight-lifting championship at the Empire Games. Malaya won the team championship with 15 points. Canada gained 13 points and New Zealand eight. Result?:— LIGHT HEAVY-WEIGHT J. Varaleau (Can.), press 2501 b, snatch 2501 b, jerk 315—total, 8151 b .. 1 I. Bloomberg (S.A.), 270, 240, 305—815 2 Tan Kim Bee (Ma!.), 222, 230, 314—765 3 T. R. Clark (N.Z.), 225, 225. 280—730.. 4 The totals lor Varaleau and Bloomberg being equal, the former won because of his lighter weight. HEAVY-WEIGHT R. H. Cleghorn (N.Z.), 285, 270, 345—900 1 R.
