STEWART ISLAND AIR SERVICE PLANS

TWO COMPANIES SEEKING LICENCE (New Zealand Press Association) INVERCARGILL, February 7. At least two companies are endeavouring to get a licence to operate an amphibious air service from Invercargill to Stewart Island. They are Foveaux Airways and Amphibious Airways. The first company made an application for a licence as far back as 1946, but the then Acting-Controller of Civil Aviation informed it that the application had been deferred pending an amendment to the regulations. The second company, Amphibious Airways, recently bought a twin-engined Douglas Dolphin amphibious aircraft from Australia. Both companies plan to operate a two to three days a week service from the Invercargill airport to Half Moon Bay, Stewart Island, and on chartered trips to the Sounds, the southern lakes, and other scenic areas.
