N.Z.’S FINANCES
STATEMENT TO DAY BY MR HOLLAND
(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, January 31.
“I intend to tell the country exactly where we stand financially.” said the Prime Minister (Mr Holland), referring to the statement which he intends to make this week giving a comprehensive survey of New Zealand’s finances. He said he thought that the public would find it highly interesting ; aiid informative.
Mr Holland’s statement will be issued in two parts. The first one will ibe released for publication to-morrow i afternoon and the second part for pubi lication on Thursday morning. The survey is expected to deal with ! the Public Accounts for the current • financial year and give details of revenue from taxation, the proceeds from borrowing, and expenditure commit- , ments. It will probably give the state of the country’s finances as the present Government found them on taking office.
“I will tell the country how much we spend in a year and where we get it from.” said Mr Holland. “Mr Holland will get his information from the same people who gave me mine.” said the former Minister of Finance (Mr W. Nash) when he referred briefly to-night to the announcement that Mr Holland will issue his survey of the state of the country’s finances
