FALSE PRETENCES CHARGES

(New Zealand Press Association) GISBORNE, January 31. Forty-three charges of false pretences were preferred against John Cherles Beecher, aged 35. proprietor Gf J.C.p. Motors. Gisborne, when he appeared in the Magistrate’s Court this afternoon before Justices of the Peace. The charges concerned the sale of 43 motor vehicles to different purchasers between June 9. 1948. and May 23. 1949, and involved £17,478 belonging to the New Zealand Guarantee Corporation. Thirteen of the 52 witnesses to be heard gave evidence to-day, and the hearing will be continued to-morrow.
