Mrs M. 'Douglas (Jedburgh, Scotland) has arrived in Chris A cburc'i to visit her son-in-law and Mr and Mrs W. A. Goss. Mansfield avenue. Mrs Douglas will stay in Christchurch for about nine months.

Mrs Geoffrey Lightband (West Avon' Flats) returned to Christchurch yesterday after an eight months’ visit to Europe and Britain. Mrs E/ W. Lewington (Medway street), who has been visiting France and England, returned to New Zealand in the Wanganella and arrived in Christchurch yesterday. The Young Contingent of the Victoria League recently sent an additional £5O worth of food to England for distribution at Christmas and £lO to the entertainment fund of the Victoria League in London, in apnreriation of hospitality shown to Canterbuy visitors to England. This was announced at a luncheon meeting of the Young Contingent vesterday. The president (Miss J. Macfarlane) presided, The honorary secretary (M"s K. Jameson) read a letter from the mother of a French child—one of the four overseas children sponsored by the contingent. The writer thanked mertibers for their great kindness to her ch’ld, and said the sponsorship gave her help in providing for her children. A coloured portrait of Miss M. Thurston, a former ladv superintendent of the Christchurch Hospital and Matron-in-Chief of the New Zgatand Expeditionary Force in the 1914-18 war, has been given to the North Canterburv Hospital by Mr J.
