MISS J. P. CROSHER HONOURED
FUNCTION AT ST. MARGARET’S COLLEGE To honour the new headmistress (Miss J. P. Crosher) more • than 250 parents of the St. Margaret’s College Parent-Teacher Association held an informal gathering in the college hall last evening “It is so nice to see so many fathers here to-night,” said Miss Crosher after she had been introduced to the gathering by a parent, Mr A. B. Edwardes. “Although this is the first of the informal gatherings, I hope it will not be the last,” Miss Crosher said. “I feel we can accomplish more in an informal way than with business meetings,” she added. Bowls of Russell lupins, roses, and greenery were used to decorate the college hall, which pupils of the sixth form ,who were assisted by Mrs B. C. Penney, and pupils of the fifth form lower A had prepared for the party during the afternoon. Short films showing the school jubilee and other recent activities of the school were shown during the evening by Mrs S. Steel, who was assisted by Miss Gwen Rarikin. The committee responsible for the success of the gathering were Mesdames E. P. Wills. R. Cranfield. B. C. Penney, Misses K. P. Edwards. G. Rankin. M. Caygill, Dr. D. McK. Dickson. and Mr A. B. Fdwardes. Pupils of the sixth form were the hostesses for the evening. DISPLAY OF HANDWORK SCHOOL FOR THE DEAF Parents and friends of pupils at the Sumner School for the Deaf enjoyed last ev r ning an exhibition of the work done by the pupils during the last year. A marching tableau and folk dancing exhibition open'd the display and parents and friends then inspected the woodwork in the up-to-date workshons on the premises. Lam n s, bookshelves. bowls, cupboards, rolFn's pins and assorted toys were among the interesting articles shown. It was exblaiihed that social studies found a prominent place in the curriculum. An attempt to give each child a in the display was successful in makih-T the evening one full of interest to all.
