MEETING AT RUGBY PARK
MISS N. BENSON AGAIN BREAKS RECORD Miss N. Benson (Teachers’ Training College), who has shown consistent form in the women’s shot put, broke her own Canterbury record for the third time this season at Rugby Park on Saturday afternoon. The new record is 30ft 6%in. Miss Benson has yet to master the finer points of technique, and when she does so should seriously challenge the national figures of 36ft established last season by Miss Y. Williams (Otago). In the senior A grade three miles, B. Wilkinson, winner of the half-mile and one mile events at the.recent secondary school championships, ran a well judged race to win convincingly from M. Spain (Technical). The time of 16in 21.4 sec, although not comparable with those of the national title-holder. J. C. Daly (Marist) last year, is a better performance than the time indicates, as the runners faced a strong wind into the home straight. To cater for primary school pupils three events were included in the programme. This was well merited, both the boys’ events being well supported. A strong easterly wind prevented any fast times. Abbreviations used in the list of results are as follows:—H.S.O.B. (High School Old Boys); C.C. (Crichton Cobbers); C.U.C. (Canterbury University College): Tech. (Technical); Pres. (Presbyterian); West. (Westonian); Wig. (Wigram): B.H.S. (Boys High School); C.A.A.C. (Canterbury Club); Mar. (Marist): T.T.C. (Teachers’ Training College); N.B. (New Brighton); Syd. (Sydenham); Tim. (Timaru). Results:— MEN’S EVENTS Senior
