OBITUARY
MR W. J. RADFORD Mr Walter James Radford, a wellknown resident of Hokitika, died suddenly in Christchurch on Friday. Mr Radford was born in the United States where his father was a prominent alluvial engineer. After spending the early part of his youth in Colombo he trained as a mining engineer at an American school of mines. He gained extensive alluvial mining experience in various parts of America, including Alaska and Colombia, before coming to New Zealand in 1929 as resident engineer and general manager of the Rimu Gold Dredging Company. Mr Radford was general manager and director of the Grey River Dredging Company, having been instrumental in the floating of the company and the building of the dredge. He was also general manager of the Rimu Gold Dredging Company and Kanieri Electric, Ltd. A keen angler. Mr Radford was also patron of the Westland Racing Club and other organisations. Mr Radford is survived by his wife, who lives in Christchurch, and one son. Mr Warrin Radford, an architect, who lives in San Francisco.. U.S.A.
