RURAL DOMESTIC SERVICE

Sir, —An elderly farmer remarked that town people should see how country folk live and vice versa. We all know there is no eight-hour day for a housewife and mother; an older woman working in a country home usually starts at 7 a.m. and finishes at 7 p.m. or later. Therefore. I feel she should be entitled to at least an hour’s relaxation in the afternoon, and at least half a day a week to be free to do her own personal sewing and darning. There would be more helo offering from older people if consideration was shown in this way. There are women employers in town who expect a week’s cleaning done in half a day; yet thev are not capable of doing it themselves. —Yours, etc.. LET US UNDERSTAND. March 30, 1949.
