CANTERBURY SENIOR ATHLETIC CHAMPIONSHIPS.—SeveraI new records were established and others equalled when the Canterbury senior athletic championships were held at Lancaster Park on Saturday. (1) J. Sutherland (Technical) winning the 440 yards in the record time of 49.7sec. (2) D. Dephoff (Technical) establishing a new record in the long jump. He jumped 22ft 9½in. (3) B. Steel (Greymouth) finishing first in the 880 yards championship. His time, 1min 57.1sec, equalled the Canterbury record. (4) The field in the three mile championship. The winner, J. C. Daly (Marist) is in the lead. S. L. Brownie (Training College) who finished second, is partly obscured behind Daly. (5) Canterbury athletes who have been selected to represent New Zealand against Australia at Wellington (left to right): J. Sutherland, D. Herman, D. Dephoff, D. R. Batten and J. S. Williams.
