VICARAGE FOR HANMER

Sir, —About three years ago the Diocese of Nelson decided to place a permanent vicar and chaplain in Hanmer Springs. There was a church and church hall but no vicarage. Now they find they cannot get a vicar without a house. The vestry has accepted plans for a moderate-sized vicarage and has about £lOOO in hand. We are now appealing for another £lOOO. As this hospital receives patients from all parts of New Zealand, and especially from Canterbury, the provision of a vicarage should not be left to this parish alone. We hope that those who have benefited from treatment in this hospital or who have spent healthgiving holidays here will remember us now and send us a Christmas gift as a thank offering.—Yours, etc..

(CANON) HENRY FRAZER, Temporary Vicar. Hanmer, December 15, 1948.
