NEW PRODUCTION CAMPAIGN

LORD MOUNTBATTEN NAMED AS HEAD REPORTED INVITATION BY SIR S. CRIPPS (Rec. 9 p.m.) LONDON, September 1. The Chancellor of the Exchequer (Sir Stafford Cripps) is reported to have invited Admiral Lord Mount* batten to lead a new all-out national campaign to speed up Britain’s production. The spearhead of the campaign, which according to the “Daily Express” is to be launched early next month, will be the new National Advisory Council of leading industrialists, trade union leaders, and managerial experts. “Sir Stafford Cripps’s idea,” says the “Daily Express/’ “is that Lord Mountbatten should preside over this council and lead the production drive. The Government’s view is said to be that Lord Mountbatten is just the man for the job, as apart from the fact that he has no political ties he has a genius for organisation and is universally respected.”
