SIX CHIMNEY FIRES AND FIRE IN OVEN

The Christchurch Central Fire Brigade put out three chimney fires on Saturday and three chimney fires and an oven fire yesterday. The first call on Saturday was at 8.30 a.m., to 209 A Papanui road, occupied by Mr Harold Newland. The second call was received at 5.34 p.m., to 38 Wilmer street, occupied by Mr Terence Hennessy, and at 9.47 p.m. the brigade was called to the home of Mr Robert Charles’ Proctor, 356 Cashel street. The first call yesterday was at 10.35 a.m. to a fire in an electric oven owned by Mr Frank Joseph Henry Blay, of 7 St. Leonard street, Riccarton. The following chimney fires were dealt with:—2.4l p.m., 63 Keppel street, New Brighton, occupied by Mr John O’Connell: 2.38 p.m., 350 Oxford terrace, occupied by Mr David Scott; 4.11 p.m.. 151 Holly road, St. Albans, occupied by Mrs Melba Poore.
