SHIRLEY VACATION SCHOOL
SCHEME ORGANISED BY METHODIST CHURCH
The second annual vacation school to be held by the Shirley Methodist Church-Youth Council will open this morning at the Methodist Rowe Memorial Hall, Shirley. The school, which is non-sectarian, has as its object moral and religious training for children during the school holidays. The school is held from 9 am. to 12 p.m.. from Monday to Friday each week, and the curricidurtr includes the presentation of films op general religious education and religious history, the organisation of games, discussion groups, and gymnastics. , The school is approved by local school bodies and assistance has been obtained from the Shirley Intermediate School, which has lent sports equipment, the Department of Internal Affairs, whfSh is supplying a physical training instructor to supervise the games, the Health Department, which is providing free rfrilk for the children, and the Country Library Service, which is providing suitable books. The scheme is financed by voluntary donations, and members of the Shirley Methodist Church have volunteered, as. staff. " At the vacation school held last year bv the Shirley Methodist Church, -250 children attended, and the average daily attendance was 160. This year the school will provide only for children from standards I to VT.--.wa younger children cannot be included.
