DECADENT POLITICS
Sir, —The political degeneration of to-day is not indicative of the state of peoples nor is it expressive of the will for international order or legal unity of those who have to sacrifice and shoulder ultimate responsibility for their representatives’ inefficiency.. Politics surely needs a wider basis of representation and consequent broader range of sane compromise. The “international” political machine needs redesigning for jet propulsion. This motive power, the moral equivalent of war, is active Christianity, and signifies not political organisations with a religious cloak “teaching for doctrines the commandments of men,” but Christian ’organisations sanctioned with political implementation. There must be tremendous spiritual power latent within millions of Christian hearts waiting for their leaders’ recognition of the fact that “spiritual wickedness in high places” in our age includes, besides sins of commission, those of omission, subjecting Christians to a criminally barbaric ultimate negating all human endeavour and progress.—Yours, etc., COMBINED OPERATIONS. July 19, 1948.
