PROSPECTS FOR TO-DAY

WAIMATE HUNT MEETING First Out, a winner at Wingatui last month, has better form to recommend him than most of his opponents in the Waimate Hack and Hunters’ Steeplechase at the Waimate Hunt Club’s annual meeting to-day, and has good prospects of adding to his record. He is a promising young jumper and has superior pace on the flat. The most opposition may come from Forage and Ballyaggan. Provision has been made for divisions in four races: the Studholme Hack and Hunters' Steeplechase, Novice Stakes, Redcliff Hack Handicap, and the Winter Trot Handicap. As Tikakoura will not be a starter in the Studholme Hack Hurdles divisions will not be necessary in that race, and they may be obviated in the Redcliff Hack Handicap also. The carded field is three over the safety limit, but with several dual acceptors, sufficient scratchings may be forthcoming. Bracketed horses on the totalisator will be:—Novice Stakes: Waveloch and King Karri, Weldrest and Kosher, Mature and Windrush, Pageant and Golden Mirage, Chaffinch and Zarcon. Harley and Skyhigh. AVONDALE CLUB (P.A.) AUCKLAND, July 16. The voting was 31 for and 18 against, the majority failing by one vote to amend the rule.—(P.A.) Metropolitan Status A remit presented by the executive committee urging that metropolitan status be given the Waikato district was agreed to at yesterday’s annual meeting of the New Zealand Racing Conference, thereby giving the club two additional votes at the conference. —(P.A.) New Stud Book “Again I regret having to record that the stud book is not yet available,” said Mr H. R. Chalmers in presenting his report to the annual meeting of the New Zealand Racing Conference yesterday. “It was hoped to get volume XV published by last December, but the task of recording the 1946 foalings and coverings, noting the names registered and the changes of ownership effected took longer than was expected. Actually, 12 months’ work Was done in half that time. Printing has been proceeding steadily during the last six months, and it is thought that the book will be available for distribution in September.” Scratched.—Trafalgar Day was scratched for the Winter Cup at 3 p.m. yesterday.
