CANTERBURY FIFTEEN
Sir,—May I, as a humble follower >f Rugby, suggest to the Rugby Union nd to the selectors that they arrange ‘o have the Town versus Country '»ame played again as soon as possible. This would give the selectors another opportunity of seeing the Country inside backs andi some fine Country forwards in action, and thereby avoid another debacle such as we witnessed last Saturday.—Yours, etc., RUGBY FAN. Rangiora, July 12. 1948.
Sir, —I should like to know if any tests of the candidates for physique and physical condition have been made in selecting the Canterbury Rugby Union fifteen. The selectors would be well advised to obtain the co-opera-tion of a medical man to make tests for speed in the prospective backs and stamina in the forwards. The backs should be made to run 100 yards, and 50 yards/-all carrying a football. The forwards should be tried over a mile and a half mile. Most of the southern teams have a fair proportion of coun-, try players. Christchurch city has had the worst winter climate in New Zealand with its constant presence of fogs. If these suggestions were carried out I would expect to see in the team a 50-50 proportion of town and. country players.—Yours, etc., SENBX. July 12, 1948.
