RACE RESULTS AT FOOTBALL

Sir,—There will be wide support, even from the more tolerant section of the community, for the protest against the Rugby Union’s unaccountable action in broadcasting racing results over the loud-speaker system at Lancaster Park. The blaring noise last Saturday was reminiscent of a cheap side-show alley, with spruikers and all. Let future announcements be confined, as at Auckland, to injuries and replacements. If the union has any energy or ideas to spare, it can then employ them towards improving the standard of its own football, fixing up its programme, correct jersey-number-ing an# so on. That is the service that football enthusiasts want, not cheap trimmings.—Yours, etc., PATRON. July 14, 1948.
