PRICE OF BEER

Sir, —The price for draught beer in all Christchurch hotels is now 7d for a 12oz glass and 6d for a lOoz, while the price for bottled beer is 7d a glass, no s;ze stipulated. From observation, I estimate that the publican gets six glasses out of a 26‘oz bottle, and so receives 3s 6d for a bottle, which I understand costs him Is 4d. Surely the Price Tribunal was not aware of this when it made the new order; or maybe all its members are purely draught beer drinkers.—Yours, June 25. 1948. L“ln the recent adjustment of prices of beer and spirits when sold in retail measures, full regard was had by the Price Tribunal to all aspects of retail trading in this connexion,” replied the tribunal.]
