NEW ZEALAND DEFENCE POLICY
VIEWS OF ASSOCIATED CHAMBERS (P.A.) DUNEDIN, March 17. Questions of defence were discussed at the Associated Chambers of Commerce conference, and two remits were finally embodied in the following resolution which was carried: * "That this conference, notwithstanding the uncertainty .of possible United Nations Organisation commitments, reaffirms the urgent need for .the preparation and the putting into effect of a comprehensive scheme of defence for New Zealand having regard to the requirements of each of the three services, both as regards the training of personnel and the provision of eQ that until such a scheme is in operation, and while appreciating what the Government has done to encourage air training, the conference recommends that the organisations at present providing facilities for the training of the youth of the country such as Sea Cadets, secondary school cadets. Air Training Corps, and aero clubs, be accorded a greater measure of support.”
