REFEREES’ ASSOCIATION MEETS
FRIENDLY GAMES DISCUSSED ■“Last season three of our members were injured in friendly games .and I think we should come to some definite policy as to future games.” said the present (Mr A. T. F. StokesV during dtacussion at the annual meeting of the Canterbury Rugby Union Referees’ Associati< *'The Rugby Union does not approve of these games,” said Mr H. T. Coulter. . As referees we have forfeited our right to play in football matches.’ Mr L. Mahoney said that the games were beneficial in helping referees to attain physical fitness. It was - decided to leave the matter to the executive, members expressing the opinion that the number of games played should be limited and that they should be played only against members of other referees’ associations. Coaching classes for referees will be held figain. this season on Monday evenBO members attended the meeting and the following officers were elected: president, Mr A. T. F. Stokes; vicegresidents, Messrs D. F. Johnson and A. r. Berry; executive, Messrs L. Walsh, C. G. Crawford, and D. B. Brown, the Rev. E. Osmers, and the Rev. W Harrison; delegate to Canterbury Rugby Union, Mr Stokes; representative on competitions committee, Mr M. B. Roberts; examination and coaching committee, Messrs W. B. Fuller, A. R. Henderson, J. Dean, E. A. Empson, R. Kennedy, C. G. Crawford, A. Smale, R. Newton, R. T. Bailey, N. Steel, and Stokes; coaching instructor, Mr C. R. McCallum; coaching selector, Mr L. Mahoney; honorary treasurer, Mr H. Johnston; honorary secretary, Mr M. B. Roberts; delegate to New Zealand Referees’ Association, Mr Stokes.
