CHRISTCHURCH BEATEN BY DUNEDIN
(P.A.) DUNEDIN, M«rch 13. Dunedin Training College beat Christchurch Training College by 8 points to 6 In the first summer tournament, which was concluded in fine weather yesterday, Dunedin won the athletics, swimming, and men’s and women’s softball, and Christchurch won the tennis, cricket, and the debate. Excellent swimming by two evenly-matched teams was seen as Dunedin gained a narrow victory over Christchurch by 26 points to 23. Christchurch gained an easly win by 120 runs in the cricket match, routing the Dunedin batsmen in the second innings. Christchurch scored 263 and 341 and Dunedin 231 and 152. Superior combination enabled th® Dunedin men's softball team to beat Christchurch by 21 to 15. T. Capon, of .Dunedin, and T. Boyce, of Christchurch, played impressively. The pitching of M. Alabaster and Dunedin’s general superiority tn batting and fielding gained them an overwhelming win by 22 to 8 in the women’s softball. The Christchurchr team lacked cohesion. A debate on the proposition, That economic control of all industry and commerce is an essential factor for good government,” was won by Christchurch by 200 points to 192. Dunedin took the affirmative and Christchurch the Miss B, Whittpckp pf Christchurch, was th* best speaker.
