RADAR STOCKS IX U.S.
BAN ON EXPORTS TO RUSSIA
<Rec. 10 p.m.) WASHINGTON, Jan. 10. The State Department imposed a ban on the export of surplus radar equipment to-night, after Mr Ross Rizley, Republican member of the House of Representatives for Oklahoma, had protested that some supplies were to Russia. The National Munitions Control Board announced that radar equipment from now would be classed as arms, and could not be exported witha licence. Surplus radar equipment of types hot considered secret by the Army had previously been sold without restriction by the War Assets Administration, and could be exported without control.
To-night’s decision is reported to mean that radar equipment capable of use in war will not in future be shipped to Russia or to Russian satellite countries.
