ENFORCEMENT OF PARTITION
STATEMENT TO U.N. COMMISSION
(N.Z.P.A.—Reuter—Copyright) NEW YORK, January 9. The United Nations would use ‘every necessary power’’ to enforce the Palestine partition, said the Secre-tary-General (Mr Trygve Lie) before the Palestine Commission to-day. Mr Lie, who was addressing the commission’s first session, declared that the Security Council would assume its full measure of responsibility implementing partition. Mr Karel Lisicky (Czechoslovakia), chairman of the commission, replied that the United Nations “could not expect miracles from five lonely pilgrims, who for the moment have nothing but the mere flag of the United Nations to help them to enforce partition.” The commission will meet again tomorrow. *
