RESTAURANT MEALS
POSSIBLE REVIEW OF ' CHARGES*
Restaurant and tea-room proprietors in Christchurch have not yet made any approach to the Price Tribunal for a review of permissible charge? for a number of items, including tea. which are part of the meajs they serve. Increases in the charges for some items are expected, hpwever, to follow the rises in the prices of such foodstuffs as tea, sugar, cooked ham, and cheese, while afternoon tea? may cost more if the bakers' aopfl” cation for an increase in the price of cake? is granted. ’’’ One firm in Christchurch whjch rgns a chain of cafeterias applied nearly three months ago for a slight increase in the prices of sandwiches and ham rolls, aftae the subsidy on ham haa been withdrawn, to meet general increases in costs, but the application was refused. A representative of the firm said yesterday that some review of charges would be necessary because of the increases in the price ef meat and other foodstuffs, and the higher price of egg pulp, which was used for cake making.
