INDUSTRY SEEKING INCREASE
MOVE TO MEET HIGHER COSTS
Poultry farmers are seeking ap in. crease in the price of egg? to meet increases ip their labour costs and prices for poultry foods. The chairman of the New Zealand Poultry Board (Mr J. W. McGlinchy) said yes. terday that the industry's case was now being and would be presented to the Economic Stabilisation Commission in a few days. In February this year, the price of .eggs was increased fey 4d a dozen in the Island Islqn<i ’ afld by 2d W ‘he North Mr McClinchy said that the indus. try s case was based on surveys that had been made throughout New land. There had been an increase in poultry farmers* general costs, for their rates had gone up, they had to pay their labour more, and the east of cultivation, straw, and other items had also increased. The adaption' of a higher extraction rate for dour Had meant the loss ef 1.500.0T0 bushels' ei pollard, and the change te different poultry mashes, shipping difficulties, and limited supplies of wheat had meant fewer eggs from each bird. .
