“FOLIES BERGERE”
SEASON OPENS NEXT WEEK
The Tivoli Circuit’s “Folies Bergere” will open a season at the Theatre Royal next Tuesday. Mr Ralton James, producer of the Tivoli Revue Company, recently returned from a trip round the world by air, and has brought back ideas from the theatres of America, London, and Paris, which are incorporated in the company’s current production. During his tour Mr James saw the famous “Folies Bergeres” in Paris. The “Folies Bergere” has a large and varied cast. Ella Shields, who will be remembered as “Burlington Bertie,” heads' the list of stars. She retains her top hat, her swinging monocle, and distinctive hair style. Although Miss Shields introduces several new song hits, her famous number, “Burlington Bertie,” is still included in her reper'toire.
Jack Murray and Connie Hobbs, well known for their character-com-edy sketches in English music halls, have also become popular with Australian audiences in their tour of the Tivoli circuit. The Kwam brothers are three Chinese whose balancing acts are performed with the neatness of movement which characterises athletes of. their nationality. Warren Latona and Sparkes are young Australian dancers'on< their!final tour before their departure for England, where they are engaged under contract.
Other stars in the show are “Chord and Discord” (comedy vocal act), Ormonde Douglas (vocalist), Bunny Westney (compere), Jean Cameron (dancer), Latasha and Laurence (dancers), the Bridges Trio (musicians), and Betty Linkie (soprano).
