ROAD SAFETY
“FLAGRANT DISREGARD OF REGULATIONS ” (P.A.) WELLINGTON, September 5. “The executive of the Municipal Association of New Zealand is greatly concerned with the flagrant disregard by some motorists of traffic regulations,” said the president of the association (Mr E. R. Neale) to-day. “Disregard by motorists of the restrictions on speed, particularly in boroughs traversed by main highways, is a danger to the lives and health of other road-users, as well as the occupants of the offending vehicles.” Mr Neale said the association was very conscious of the excellent educational work being done by the Transport Department and other public-spirited bodies such as the Junior Chambers of Commerce. His executive considered that the danger to pedestrians and road-users generally could only be met by prompt prosecution of all offenders, and by a rigid enforcement of penalties against all offenders who were found guilty.
