DEMAND FOR TYRES

SHORTAGE OF SUPPLIES From Our Own Reporter WELLINGTON, August 27. Although the Minister of Industries and Commerce (Mr A. H. Nordmeyer) said on Friday when he lifted the tyre rationing regulations that there were now adequate supplies in the country, many Wellington dealers find that their stocks cannot meet the demand. For the last three days there has been such a rush of motorists seeking new tyres that some dealers are turning away prospective customers. They expect a shortage for some months because supplies are arriving in small quantities. Tyres in greatest demand are odd sizes, from 17 to 21 inches. Dealers have also had many inquiries for 16inch tyres, but these are particularly scarce.
