U.N. INQUIRY ON PALESTINE
COMMISSION FORMS STUDY GROUPS PARTITION, FEDERATION, OR CONFEDERATION (Rec. 9.40 p.m.) LONDON, August 20. The Geneva correspondent of “The Times” says that the United Nations Palestine Commission has set up three working groups to study independently partition, federation, and confederation as possible solutions. These are to report separately to the commission.
The sub-committee which visited disnlaced persons’ camps in Germany and Austria has drawn up a report, and this will now be considered by the full commission. It is understood to contain a strongly-worded recommendation that the displaced persons’ camps should be ended soon.
The commission has also discussed the future of the mandate, but opinions were divided about the time that should elapse between a decision on *he future of Palestine and the final termination of the mandate. Some delegates favoured one year and others two.
