DUNEDIN ORDERS 31 TROLLEY-BUSES
SOME BODIES TO BE MADE IN CHRISTCHURCH
(P.A.) DUNEDIN, July 29. The Dunedin City Council, in its first step towards establishing a trolley-bus transport system approved by the ratepayers last January, accepted tenders for 31 buses at a total cost of £221,269 for chassis manufactured in England and bodies made in Wellington and Christchurch. One complete bus is being imported as a prototype. The full scheme provides for a fleet of 79 trolley-buses, but it is not expected that the buses now ordered will be fully installed before the middle of 1950, although the first route of the new service will be running by July,
Councillors expressed concern at the steep rise in cost. A minority called lor a complete re-examination ’of the scheme, but was defeated.
