SNACK BARS ON WHARVES
AUCKLAND HARBOUR BOARD’S PLANS " The Press “ Special Service • AUCKLAND, June 10. On the ground that material used in the construction of cafeteria and snack bars for Auckland waterside workers could be better used in the erection of houses, two members of the Auckland Harbour Board dissented from a resolution authorising that part of the work being carried out by the board. The two members, Messrs T. A. Bishop and A. S. Sutherland, said it was wrong to use SBaterials in this manner. The chief engineer, Mr Vickerman, reported that detailed plans for the cafeteria to be provided in the port building, and snack bars for Princes, Queen’s, King’s and the export wharves had been approved by the Waterfront Industry Commission, and a permit for their construction had been received from the Building Controller. It had been agreed in general that the board should make alterations in the structures, and that the commission should provide the fittings and materials, the total cost to the board being about £5OOO. Some preliminary work had been begun, and Mr Vickerman recommended authorisation.
This was approved with the two dissentients.
