MOBILE CARAVAN OFFICE
ENGLISH GIRL’S WORK AS RECEPTIONIST The Automobile Association in England recently put on the roads its first, mobile caravan office. In this way an unusual and interesting job, that of receptionist in this mobile office, has been created for an English girl. She will assist the male staff of the office in attending to inquiries by Automobile Association members. She will give assistance or advice to women motorists where necessary. She will also help with personal telephone messages in emergency; with advice about routes and hotels, and in summoning assistance in the case of a breakdown. When inquiries were made from the secretary of the Automobile Association. Canterbury (Mr J. S. Hawkes), as to the likelihood of similar positions being made available in New Zealand, he said that the matter had not as yet been considered. However, with the increasing membership and woik of the Automobile Association, such work for women might be practicable in the future. Assistance of this kind to motorists would be of- value during holiday periods, he said, but the work would of necessity be seasonal, as the traffic on the roads during normal periods would not warrant a full-time occupation of this nature.
