Following the combined operations which the French launched yesterday west of Hanoi, the French claim that they completely control the Great Ake area of northern Indo-China, according to a communique from Hanoi. The French captured numerous road blocks and tank traps. The communique adds that the Viet Nam forces suffered heavy losses in men and equipment. The French authorities at Saigon announce that French troops thwarted a determined Viet Nam attempt to blockade the Saigon port by cutting roads and railways, blowing up bridges and blocking rivers in southern Indo-China. Viet Nam forces began the attempted blockade last week with a series of co-ordinated operations over a widespread area which failed, thanks to the untiring action of the French forces. The French News Agency says that nearly 100 French and Spanish Roman Catholic missionaries are missing in northern Indo-China since the largescale fighting began on December 19.
